Resident Evil – the remake, developed for GameCube – achieved the impossible, improving upon one of the most significant games ever made, reviving the series for an entire new generation of players.

Released in 2002, the game was ground-breaking; graphically, it was unparalleled, continuing to impress over a decade after its original release.

Besides the visuals, the game overhauled the story and gameplay, revising aspects of the narrative, including the manner by which certain characters were murdered. Additionally, the game introduced several new features, including the Crimson Heads – a powerful form of undead capable of actively pursuing the player, sprinting and lunging to attack.

The game wasn’t a commercial success, but has since cultivated an audience since its release, winning over audiences and critics alike. To date, it’s considered one of the better games on the GameCube, and is cited as one of the most important examples of the survival horror genre, perhaps more significant even than the original.
