10 Gutsy Video Games That Tackle Polarising Subject Matter
8. Grand Theft Auto V
Ever since the advent of Gran Theft Auto (GTA), Rockstar's gangster epics have faced their fair share of criticisms.
Out of all the controversies to discuss however it is the latest entry in the series that really lit a fire under everybody. The now infamous government mandated torture sequence was widely criticised for being too brutal and overall just a little hard to deal with.
However all GTA does is shine a harsh light on the realities of torture and just how painful it is to both perform and endure. The real issue lies in how the game brings attention to the fact that it's all above board in the eyes of the government.
So when court mandated resident psychopath Trevor goes to town on some poor sap in the chair it is understandably pretty brutal. The hardest part about the whole thing is just how much freedom of choice the player gets in the whole thing, they can choose between a variety of instruments and tools to use and in whatever order they wish.
It also doesn't help that the characters involved shows absolutely no remorse for their actions, not that GTA characters are exactly human in the first place though.
