10 Hardest Video Game Bosses That Required Incredible Skill

7. Alma - Ninja Gaiden

2004’s Ninja Gaiden came along at a time when western games, for the most part, were getting easier. As technology had begun to expand, graphics had improved and large-scale formats had become more and more accessible for developers.

Previously, games had to be difficult to complete, in order to make up for technological limitations and less content. Now, the scale of video games had changed and games could provide more meat without having to remain painfully difficult.

Ninja Gaiden was having absolutely none of this.

Here was a game that rewarded nothing other than pure skill. To beat this game you need to be quick, precise and on the ball in order to take on your foes with a variety of martial arts and weapons combos. Alma is, without a doubt, the toughest of these foes the game will throw at you.

This terrifying human/insect hybrid forces you to rethink everything you'd learned about the game's combat. She shrugs off quick-attack combos with ease, moves around the map incredibly quickly and can attack both up-close and at range with devastating strength. This boss promotes outside-the-box thinking, is a great cause for anxiety, a true test of skill and also an action-packed spectacle.

This is truly everything you could want from a punishing, but fair boss encounter.
