10 Hardest Video Game Enemies They Had To Patch
7. Skolas - Destiny
Skolas is a recurring boss encounter in the original Destiny's House Of Wolves DLC. We'll avoid getting into weeds of Destiny's lore by saying Skolas is a big deal: legendary warrior, leader, overall big nasty guy. Betrayed by his own kind, he ended up in the Prison Of Elders, which is where you encounter him.
So what made Skolas such a pain? For starters is the use of "burn" - a mechanic in Destiny that results in players and enemies doing more damage over time. This increasing damage could stack so much that players would frequently be killed in a single shot from one of Skolas's minions.
And yes, in addition to Skolas were regular enemies who would spawn at random. Even when all was going well, there was a good chance some jerk would appear out of nowhere to shoot you in the back. This resulted in players mostly hiding in corners, making for a frustrating and boring fight.
In addition to removing the burn mechanic from the fight, Bungie's nerf hammer also made it so Skolas's reinforcements spawned at predictable intervals, allowing players to prepare.
But you really wonder how anyone thought random one-shot deaths wouldn't drive the player base absolutely mad.
