6. Warden Eternal - Halo 5

The Warden is a recurring boss fight in Halo 5 - an alien AI who returns repeatedly like a bad infection to fire the game's difficulty spike stright up and off the charts.

The Warden was the definition of extra. Super fast with one weak spot on his back, strong as hell, had multiple homing attacks, and (on higher difficulties) a one-hit-kill melee attack that could be used from medium range.

The idea was that you would use your AI squad mates to distract and flank him so you could get a shot at his back.

The problem was that, like in almost every game ever made, your AI squad mates were worse than useless, resulting in a fight where you spent most of your time dodging and taking cover while praying to get a lucky shot to his weak point.

Fortunately, 343 Industries heard the cries of their players and addressed the Warden with some simple changes, reducing his speed, range and accuracy. Making him at least slightly vulnerable to frontal attacks, it's amazing what adjusting a few numbers can accomplish for player satisfaction.
