10 Hardest Video Game Enemies They Had To Patch

5. Pandemonium Warden - Final Fantasy XI

Final Fantasy XI was the franchise's first, highly successful, foray into the world of massively multiplayer online role playing games. It's also infamous for boasting some borderline impossible boss fights - the kind that take hours of coordinated effort between dozens of players to even have a chance at beating.

However, after an infamous incident in which 36 players spend a staggering 18 hours fighting the Pandemonium Warden, a literally life-saving nerf was needed. The marathon encounter was eventually abandoned as players became physically ill after so many hours in front of their screens.

After reports of players fainting and vomiting over the course of the incident, media coverage more or less forced Square-Enix's hand in making the fight significantly easier.

Not only was the Pandemonium Warden made weaker in its overall stats - less health, weaker attacks, etc. - it also had a spawn time capped at two hours, making another prolonged encounter impossible. After two hours it would disappear - fight over, whether you like it or not.

This is what happens when developers underestimate the amount of free time and dedication possessed by a lot of gamers.
