4. Guitar Hero Is For People Who Suck At Actual Guitar
The Awesome: Enormously successful rhythm game franchise allowed players to strum a plastic peripheral to blast through some of their favourite rock music hits. The franchise made billions of dollars and became a general pop-culture phenomenon, before slowly outstaying its welcome and becoming a relic. The Truth: It may have taken people a few years to realise this, but the only reason anyone would play a plastic version of a real guitar...is because they're not skilled enough to play a proper one. Why does a child want a plastic guitar for Christmas? Because they can't play a real guitar but want the cool sounds. The same principle is true here, and though the game's sheer audacity and party appeal kept it popular for several years, eventually we all began to realise how utterly ridiculous we looked playing plastic guitars in our living rooms, and later on, playing plastic drum kits and even singing (badly) into a microphone. Though Rock Band tried to latch onto the idea of incorporating a real guitar into the game and promoting actual guitar play, it was too little too late, and both franchises died a death.
