The reason why this section works so well is because players have spent the entire game up to that point gradually growing to rely on their night vision camera. In a game where your only options are to run or hide, the camera becomes your best friend, and the thought of losing that simple tool is almost heartbreaking when it inevitably occurs.

The subsequent sequence is brilliantly put together by developer Red Barrels as players have to navigate a series of shadowy hallways until finally recovering their navigational aid.
