10 Heartbreaking Video Game Deaths You Were Powerless To Stop

5. Aunt May - Marvel's Spider-Man

Did anyone see this one coming?

Spider-Man is a very tragic character. Plagued by his signature 'Parker luck', he honestly never seems to catch a break. Every heroic action he performs seems to come at a cost, be it a small or large one.

Being one of the best Spider-Man adaptations to date, Marvel's Spider-Man continues this trend. Near the end of the game Peter has to make the impossible choice of saving his own Aunt, or the entirety of New York city.

While no easy choice, Peter decides to save the city. Just as you expect Spider-Man would. What makes this scene even sadder is the absolutely fantastic performances from Yuri Lowenthal and Nancy Linari. Aunt May reassuring Peter as she admits she always knew about his double life is so bittersweet, but a truly fantastic way to say goodbye to the character.

With none of the recent film adaptations and even the comics being able to officially kill off Aunt May permanently, it was a really risky yet impressive decision by Insomniac to undertake.

Peter lost his Uncle due to his own selfishness, so seeing him lose his Aunt in his most selfless act is perhaps one of the greatest moments in the character's history.
