10 Hidden PS3 Gems You Should Track Down
8. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West (2010)
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was criminally overlooked by many when it arrived in 2010, but remains a masterclass in the development of effective companion AI.
Ninja Theory's action-adventure is a loose adaptation of the Chinese novel Journey to the West, following two characters as they travel through a post-apocalyptic world populated by old Mechs left over from a devastating war. Protagonist Monkey has been taken captive by a young woman named Trip, who uses a slaver headband to control him like a puppet and force him into accompanying her on a perilous journey.
Too often, companion AI is dim-witted or simply gets in your way, making you wish your follower wasn't impervious to lethal blows, but Enslaved's developers cracked this tough nut. Monkey and Trip function like a well-oiled machine, complementing each other from both a gameplay and story standpoint throughout.
Enslaved is also one of the most visually striking games on the PS3, set in a world where nature has taken over after mankind's warring ways brought them close to extinction. Needless to say, it isn't your usual post-apocalyptic adventure.
