10 Highest-Rated Video Games Of The Decade - Ranked Worst To Best
3. Mass Effect 2
Metacritic: 96
Mass Effect 2 was part RPG, part shooter, all masterclass in gaming. The game remains without a doubt BioWare’s finest hour, and after a few flops this decade, it’s now remembered even more fondly.
Mass Effect 3 was a solid game with a deflatingly poor ending, Dragon Age: Inquisition was good without being spectacular, then they dropped off a cliff. Mass Effect: Andromeda was buggy as hell, and even if it had run smoothly, lacked any of the narrative flair of the original trilogy.
Anthem literally set consoles on fire, and that’s still not the worst thing you could say about it. Best to move along quickly.
Back with Mass Effect 2, it was simplicity distilled into something genius. The game consisted mainly of recruiting squadmates then making them loyal, with a few story missions thrown in there too.
It sounds a little rinse and repeat, but it didn’t get to be Metacritic’s 34th highest ranked game of all time for nothing. These loyalty missions, particularly Tali’s, offer some of the best narratives in gaming.
