10 Hit Video Games That Were Totally Critic-Proof
9. Homefront
In 2011, Call of Duty was still the dominant first person shooter franchise on the market. Homefront was then released and presented an alternative to fans of the genre.
It's set in a dystopian future where an allied Korea has invaded the United States. The unique premise allowed the game to stand out.
Upon release though, the game received a mix response from critics with plenty unhappy with the length of the campaign, clocking in at a measly five hours. Reviewers also claimed that beyond the plot, Homefront didn't do enough to differentiate itself from other FPSs on the market at the time.
These criticisms did not deter interested players, as the game sold over 2.5 million copies leading to a sequel titled Homefront: The Revolution, released five years later.
