10 Hit Video Games That Were Totally Critic-Proof
7. Resident Evil 6
The fourth and fifth games in the Resident Evil series added more action elements into the franchise but Resident Evil 6 was the main series' first full-fledged action game.
Turning a beloved survival horror franchise into an action one was always going to invite backlash, and the mixed reviews of Resident Evil 6 illustrate that point.
Even when the title was reviewed as a shooter, critics had multiple complaints. One issue was the incorporation of a poor cover system that struggled to work a lot of the time. Resident Evil 6's melee system was also considered grossly overpowered.
Another criticism was that Resident Evil 6's four intertwining campaigns lacked consistency, with most critics claiming that Leon's was much better than the others.
Changing genres didn't stop the popular series from selling well though. While the sales started slowly, it was boosted from its re-release on the Xbox One and PS4 and ended up selling 9 million copies over its lifetime.
