10 Horror Video Game Sequels BETTER Than The Original
6. Pathologic 2
The chronology and sequel status of the Pathologic games aren't quite so clear cut as other franchises. This game may share a numerical reference to its order, but it acts more like a remake than a direct continuation. Still, there are narrative elements that allow it to continue onwards, and the ambiguity surrounding its chronology is a perfect metaphor for the surreal adventure that is Pathologic.
It's setting centres on a town that has been hit by a devastating plague. You are then tasked with helping citizens to survive whilst attempting to keep your own lungs breathing. It is a harsh and brutal experience as no matter how hard you try, things will go wrong.
This game is filled from top to bottom with peculiar imagery, as the embodiments of the plague and general scenery are so creative and unique. Additionally, it completely wrenches gaming tropes from you, as is subverts a lot of what you'd expect from a game. For example, while other titles that give you choices make the good and evil distinctions clear, you get no such luxury in the world of Pathologic.
It's a gaming experience unlike any other, and while you get a little less story in this second instalment, you get a far better playing game, with some haunting visuals and fantastic pacing.
There is also a complete remake of the first game dubbed Pathologic Classic HD, which also deserves mention here.
