10 Horror Video Game Sequels BETTER Than The Original

4. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

The Evil Within 2

Resident Evil, a series so good that it makes the list twice.

If Resident Evil 2 was the game that proved the property's value as a series, then Biohazard was absolutely the title that brought faith back to the waning franchise. It did so by completely reinventing it, but not forgetting what made Resi so beloved in the first place. This is exactly what a gaming sequel should do, and it's hard to think of one that did better.

The previous games all featured either fixed camera angles, or over the shoulder third person perspectives. But, instead of this, Biohazard forced you into a first-person perspective as you explored a derelict property owned by a terrifying malformed family. The narrative received a tonne of praise, as the villainous characters were some of the scariest in gaming, and the exploration progression of the title gave the setting a real sense of life.

Completely changing the perspective was - at first - seen as a deformation of the typical Resi identity. Still, Biohazard truly returned to the franchises glory days, as it focussed on the horror survival mechanics of the younger titles but added in plenty of elements from the more action-packed instalments.
