10 Horror Video Games Dying To Be Remade

7. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Another victim of troubled development, CoC: Dark Corners of the Earth was still considered one of horror gaming's best, even if some of its most ambitious concepts were left out. Adding those back in and giving the title the time and effort it needs, it could no doubt surpass the heights of its original outing.

Based on Lovecraft's novella The Shadow Over Innsmouth, this 1920s set first person survival horror followed private detective Jack Walters, who has been hired to investigate a missing persons case in the mysterious town of Innsmouth.

Dark Corners of the Earth was somewhat infamous for being difficult, though in survival horror, there's a certain tension afforded by increased difficulty. With no HUD as well as a sanity meter which can trigger hallucinations and eventually game over if the player dwells on hideous or horrific aspects, there was certainly a lot of ambition here and surprisingly, despite its development difficulties, most of it was pulled off.

Given the power now available to developers and the number of ideas that were dropped (including the potential for the game to be more of a non-linear roleplaying experience), Dark Corners of the Earth is a prime candidate for resurrection.
