10 Hottest Video Game Movies Currently In Production - Ranked

2. Mass Effect

Mass Effect Andromeda
BioWare

A Mass Effect movie was actually announced way back in May 2010, just a few months after the release of second game in the trilogy, which was met with near universal appeal. Since then it has remained in the very early stages of development, for various reasons.

The film was set to be a production of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros., but after the two studios ended their partnership the rights reverted back to Legendary, and in 2013 they were said to be pitching it to Universal Pictures.

Rumors were abound that the film would be a prequel exploring the backstory of Commander Shepard, but it was eventually revealed that it would be an adaptation of the first game. Casey Hudson, the creative director of the game trilogy, was said to be involved, and was even present during a pre-production preview panel in 2011.

A lot of time has passed since then, and there is still no movement regarding this film. Every time it is brought up, Bioware says it is still happening, but that it's a matter of getting the right script. Until then, don't expect to see a Mass Effect movie any time soon, but should it finally see the light of day, it will be an exciting (and nervous) time for fans of the franchise.
