10 Hottest Video Game Movies Currently In Production - Ranked
10. Tetris
The very idea of a Tetris movie has always been a joke; a movie that could only come about when Hollywood inevitably runs out of original and profitable ideas. Each year has brought us closer to this moment, and so here we are in 2016, seriously humoring the notion of an actual Tetris movie, which is closer to becoming a reality than it ever has before.
At the Cannes Film Festival this year, Larry Kasanoff, producer of True Lies and the previous Mortal Kombat movies, made it clear his intentions to make a sci-fi thriller based on the popular puzzle game series. It will be a China-U.S. co-production under Threshold Global Studios, which Kasanoff formed with Bruno Wu, the CEO of the Chinese based Sun Seven Stars Media Group.
Kasanoff has remained tight lipped about what exactly this movie will be, but has said that it won't involve the famous Tetris blocks, at least not in the way you might think. Supposedly they've been in constant communication with The Tetris Company for over a year, and the plan is to film and cast it in China and other locations around the world in an effort to promote mass appeal.
There are even plans for a trilogy. It honestly sounds like a big joke, but make no mistake, it is not. It's still too early to tell whether Tetris: The Movie will actually hit theaters soon, but those involved sound serious in their intent to make it happen, so we'll see. Regardless, it should be interesting.
