7. The Division

Along with Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell, Ubisoft has made it clear they intend to make a film based on one of their newest franchises, The Division, an open world multiplayer third-person shooter that takes place in a post pandemic New York City. Following the successful release of the first game earlier this year, Ubisoft wasted no time making the announcement, even going so far as to hook actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain to both star and produce.

Ubisoft is still looking for a writer, while Chastain and Gyllenhaal are set to be closely involved from the earliest stages in an effort to earn this movie a certain level of pedigree. Clearly Ubisoft is trying to avoid the pitfalls of previous video game films by treating the production seriously, a strategy they've utilized with their other films.

Given the recentness of this announcement, nothing else is known at this time. It is unlikely that we'll be seeing this movie in theaters any time soon, but if production remains on a steady course then a late 2018 or 2019 release seems likely.
