10 Hottest Video Game Movies Currently In Production - Ranked
6. Borderlands
The role-playing cooperative first-person shooter Borderlands is without a doubt developer Gearbox's most popular and profitable franchise, putting the player in the role of a bandit who, along with your friends, explores the planet Pandora for a rumored vault containing advanced alien weaponry.
Recognizing its appeal, just last year Gearbox made a deal with the movie studio Lionsgate, known for The Hunger Games and Saw, to produce and distribute a "tentpole" movie based on the series.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has said that he made the decision out of fear that the games haven't reached a large enough audience, hoping that a film will expose the name brand to more people. Avi Arad, who has been successful bringing Spider-Man and X-Men to the big screen, will oversee production along with his son Ari.
Both Pitchford and the Arads have said that their intentions are to remain faithful to the tone and spirit of the games, stating the the film will probably be rated R. Other than the recent hiring of Aaron Berg to write the script, no release date, casting, or directing announcements have been made.
