4. Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is one of the few game series to have gotten more than one movie adaption, both of which starred Angelina Jolie at the height of her sex appeal. Both films aren't remembered too fondly anymore, which means the franchise is ripe for rebooting, especially because the game series has already done so to great critical and financial success.

Just this year it was announced that a new Tomb Raider movie was being fast tracked into production, with Swedish Academy Award winning actress Alicia Vikander tapped to play Lara Croft. Norwegian director Roar Uthaug, known for his films Cold Prey, Escape, and The Wave, has been hired to direct.

Taking inspiration from the more gritty, down to earth approach of the current games, this film is said to be an origin story for Lara, exploring her relationship with her father as she sets off on a mission to find him after he goes missing during some sort of archeological expedition or quest.

Unlike many other video game based films, production on this Tomb Raider seems pretty stable, and a solid release date has already been set. Barring any unforeseen complications, expect to see Lara back on the big screen March 2018.
