10 Hugely Anticipated Video Game Sequels (That Probably Aren't Happening)

4. Beyond Good & Evil 2

The original Beyond Good and Evil was a labour of love for Rayman creator Michel Ancel who spent three years with his team crafting the cult hit action-adventure. Originally envisioned as at least a trilogy, it’s now been 15 years since the sequel was officially greenlit - making it the longest development time for a game ever.

The last time we fans got a look at Beyond Good and Evil 2 was a cinematic at E3 2017 which was a beautiful, riveting tease that felt as though the wheels were finally on the track. And then… nothing.

In 2020, Ancel came under fire as a pretty terrible boss to work for who was known for scrapping work and restarting projects numerous times. After departing the team in the wake of this, perhaps now the sequel could finally pick a path and walk it. In February 2022 Ubisoft said that the game “remains in pre-production after at least five years of development”.

What?!

Fans had wasted years of their lives waiting and hoping for this sequel which seems to be trapped forever in development hell. By the same metric, Ubisoft had wasted 10 years on the project with multiple versions that presumably were worked on and then discarded.

How much more development time will they pay for before calling it quits? Every studio has their limits on how much money they’ll throw away…
