10 Hugely Beloved PlayStation Franchises Sony Must Bring Back
7. MediEvil
MediEvil was a hack-and-slash platformer on the PS1 which never quite got the recognition it deserved for its unique art design and bizarre style. It had its fanbase, but never the largest, possibly because its quirkiness and ambition (the sequel was set amongst the ghosts and ghouls of Victorian London) placed it deliberately outside the mainstream. The original would look a little dated if remade, but the years since it came out have been kind to games like MediEvil. Most notably, Dark Souls, another game with a steep learning curve set in a medieval castle, has been one of the biggest sleeper hits of its generation. A MediEvil sequel shouldn't try to be as difficult as Dark Souls. But a slightly darker version of the game would be a natural fit today. If it could retain the artistic styles of the original, it would be like nothing else currently available. As one redditor put it, MediEvil on the PS4 would look like "a game designed by Tim Burton". Unfortunately, a sequel appears highly unlikely, with lead designer Jason Wilson saying a couple of years ago that it was never given the green light. If that changes, though, there's an undead army of fans ready to step back into the oddly-shaped shoes of Dan Fortesque, Esquire.
