10 Hugely Beloved PlayStation Franchises Sony Must Bring Back
3. WipEout
For years, a new PlayStation console meant a new WipEout game. The runaway success of the futuristic, psychedelic space racer on the PS1 saw it get an early release on the PS2, PSP, and as a downloadable PS3 title. But for an ill-fated outing on the N64, it's been a staple PlayStation exclusive. It's obvious why a next-gen WipEout game has the potential to be a huge success; its graphics were always ambitious and a fully-realised version of that style of racer would look incredible. Bombing along at what felt really like hundreds of miles an hour was fun enough on the PS1, so imagine what a PS4 version would feel like. It's also a game that would benefit from seamless online multiplayer. Unfortunately, Sony closed down the studio which developed the WipEout games, SCE Studio Liverpool, in 2012. There's hope though; R8, set up by developers from that closed-down studio, has announced Formula Fusion for 2015. It's got the hovering vehicles, the futuristic feel, and even the electronica soundtrack of WipEout. The only problem with the new game is that it lacks the big name of the series, but if it gets the publicity a spiritual successor to WipEout deserves, it could be a huge draw for attracting people to the PS4.
