10 Hugely Loveable Gaming Bosses We Didn't Want To Kill

8. Lance Vance - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Lance Vance is the epitome of cool...at least in the early stages of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Easily recognisable with his ridiculous suits, the Lance Vance Dance, and voice work from Miami Vice's Tubbs himself, he's a colorful, charismatic, and extremely likeable character. That all changes, however, after the brilliant mission Rub Out, in which protagonist Tommy Vercetti and Lance take out Ricardo Diaz and his whole criminal enterprise. Lance begins to resent Tommy's success, and his perception that Tommy treats him like a child. In the game's final mission, Keep Your Friends Close..., Lance ends up selling Tommy out to Sonny Forelli, leading to a climactic, Scarface-inspired shootout inside Tommy's mansion. Tommy ends up killing Lance on the roof, and though Tommy's subsequent taking care of Sonny is supposed to be the big end-game moment, we were really still hurting from having to kill a man as smooth as Lance Vance. Sure, he was a treacherous douchebag, but Lance was also one of the most entertaining and hilarious characters in GTA history, and having to blow him away wasn't something we did lightly.
