MetaCritic Score: 80-82 It's baffling to me that more wasn't made of Metro: Last Light upon release. It came out during the summer, with very little competition to speak of, and though its first-week sales smoked Metro 2033's lifetime US sales, it very quickly dropped out of the gaming conversation despite being one of the most moodily atmospheric games of the whole year. Critics loved its combination of bleak visuals and haunting storytelling, yet I was surprised it didn't enter the various Game of the Year debates a little more fiercely. I don't know a single other person in my real life social circles who has actually played the game, and what a title they're missing out on. It's not exactly like this sort of subject matter is niche, either. Who doesn't love a post-apocalyptic shooter? Instead, I couldn't help but think that the release of the similarly impressive Bioshock Infinite a few months earlier effectively stole its thunder and gave gamers their fill of sci-fi FPS thrills.
