The Witcher has built its reputation upon solid, well-made RPGs that started on PC and offer an excellent mix of storytelling, combat and questing through a vast world. The same goes for the size of the map in Zelda: Breath of the Wild which can be overwhelming on first glance.

Although the opening of the game is far more cinematic than Zelda, Geralt's initial quip about the mountain pass being as beautiful as ever as he steps out onto the balcony has a counterpart moment on Breath of the Wild with the Great Plateau reveal.

The sense that the vast world is waiting for you to begin exploring hits you like nothing else can and you stand there eagerly anticipating the adventures you'll have.

Elsewhere The Witcher 3 shows its influence in Zelda where the HUD shows a minimap and the current weather and time of day. Enemy health bars are clearly displayed during combat in both games so you can judge the effectiveness of your combat tactics and power of attack with each weapon type.

Zelda doesn't have the maturity or reputation of The Witcher, but it's good to see even little details being added to Zelda from western RPGs.
