10 Iconic Video Game Scores That'll Give You Goosebumps
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Marcin PrzybyĆowicz
It is no exaggeration to state that the soundtrack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is staggeringly good, and is without any doubt one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time. Hell, forget games, this score beats most major Hollywood movies in the score-stakes.
As Geralt mounts his trusty horse Roach and sets of on his epic quest to find Ciri, the sheer variety of music on show is frankly unbelievable. From slow, haunting, operatic pieces, full of strings and chorus lines akin to something from Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings score, to the unsettling, Eastern themed battle score Silver for Monsters, which is punctuated by tribal, almost animalistic chanting.
The crown jewel in this already overflowing treasure chest, however - even better than The Fields of Ard Skellig - is the track The Wolven Storm (Priscilla's Song) which features in the Broken Flowers quest line.
The whole track consists of nothing more than a single lute and stunning female vocal provided by Emma Hiddleston (Tom's sister. No, really.) with the in-universe lyrics a poignant comment on Geralt and Yennifer's tumultuous relationship.
The track is as stunning as it is simple, but once again demonstrates composer Marcin Przybylowicz's genius.
