10 Idiotic Moral Panics Caused By Awesome Video Games

2. Left 4 Dead 2

untitled

Is there anyone who buys a zombie game and DOESN'T expect it to be violent? Anybody? Okay. Left 4 Dead 2 is a survival hor... err, co-op game that takes place across the southern United States. It begins in Savannah, Georgia, and ends in New Orleans Louisiana. In addition to the usal gripes of excessive dismemberment and weapon violence (Yawn.), L4D2 also recieved the unique variant of bitching and moaning regarding the negative depiction of an American city, similar to how Vice City was compared to Miami, and Liberty City was seen as a cariacture of New York. However, this was also becuase New Orleans was still reeling from the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Furthermore, similar to Resident Evil 5, the "socialy conscious" crowd felt that the game (which I've already stated occurs in the rural southern United States), has racist overtones due to the fact that a significant percentage of the opponents in the game are black (again, Yawn.). None of these accusations existed for long (except in Australia, where the game was banned), and even the boycott group (HA!) that occurred in protest to the game soon disbanded before its launch. Social issues and games seemingly don't mix, right? Well....

Hi there.
