8. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Eggman Wins
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is an RPG developed by BioWare, the esteemed veterans of the genre. The game deals with Sonic and his friends dealing with a new enemy, the Marauders, who have been trapped in an alternate dimension called the Twilight Cage.
Along the way, the hedgehog teams up with Dr. Eggman, who was defeated at the start of the game. Since then, the doctor claims to have reformed and even helps our hero build a way to get to the alternate dimension. With the help of Miles 'Tails' Prower, the two build the Cyclone which transports Sonic and friends to the Twilight Cage. But Eggman claims he must stay behind to ensure their safe return, and so he is left alone in the ruins of Metropolis.
And true to his character, when our heroes defeat the Marauders and return to their dimension, they find Eggman having conquered the Earth with a rebuilt Metropolis.
Due to BioWare being acquired by Electronic Arts and the legal issues surrounding the game, it is unlikely that Sonic Chronicles' cliffhanger will ever be resolved.
