10 Improvements The New Gears Of War Needs To Have

9. New Mechanics

Although by no means the first third-person shooter ever created, Gears was arguably the franchise to bring this genre into a new and exciting realm for the next-generation. They say lightning doesn't strike twice, but with the resources of Microsoft, a lot of time and effort and a lot of love, Gears of War for the Xbox One could quite easily redefine this genre once again. The original Gears developed the idea of using cover to your advantage - no longer were you just a bullet-sponge running forward to pistol-whip everything in sight, instead you focused on a real-feeling fight, dodging and diving while your opponents attempted to do the same. Although I'm certainly no game developer, I can more than imagine MS wants Gears to be as good as it once was. Although the Xbox One's Kinect is most certainly a divisive device, how about incorporating elements into the gameplay that use it? Not necessarily a Kinect-only experience on rails, but how about allowing gamers to throw grenades by mimicking the move in real life, or perhaps have the ability to roadie run, then punch in real life to knock over a Locust? Simple, yet immersive. Also not for everyone, so these functions could also be mapped to the controller. It's not limited to Kinect either. Surely the minds behind the Xbox One know the best way to make use of its capabilities and take advantage of its power to make something new and fresh that will drive this genre forwards. A difficult task for sure, but with tight gameplay and a new experience, Gears in the next gen might just succeed.
