10 Incredible Characters Wasted In Terrible Video Games
7. Atton Rand - Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II
Star Wars: Knights Of he Old Republic II is infamously glitchy and unfinished, with an ending that consists entirely of an exposition dump. However, while a technical train wreck, its story and characters are some of the best Star Wars has ever had to offer. And one of those characters is the deceptively complex Atton Rand.
Introduced as the resident Han Solo knockoff we see in a lot of Star Wars expanded fiction (we see you, Dash Rendar), you'll come to learn that it's all a Don Draper-style act he's been putting on for years.
In actuality, Rand was a fiercely loyal servant of Darth Revan, pre-redemption. Trained to hunt down and abduct Jedi for Revan to torment and turn to the dark side, Rand was molded into a tool for violence. But after discovering his own Force sensitivity, he went into hiding. And what better cover for a grim professional kidnapper than that of the charming rogue?
Like other characters in the game, Rand can eventually be trained in the Force, leading him to redemption as a Jedi or embracing his violent past as a Sith, depending on the player's choices. Hopefully the former. The latter is very sad.
