10 Incredible-Looking Video Game Bosses (That Sucked To Fight)

2. Liquid Ocelot - Metal Gear Solid 4

The presentation for Metal Gear Solid 4's primary villain, Liquid Ocelot is top-notch. The confrontation preludes with a masterful eight-minute sequence, with Liquid detailing his intentions to his "brother" Solid Snake, before the two batter each other senseless in a magnificent pre-rendered sequence.

Throughout this scuffle, the boss music from each MGS game is played, to give the already touching climax more weight. (Also, having Snake titled as "Naked Snake" during the third phase is a nice touch.)

Because all these emotional moments hit their mark, it's easy to forget the showdown itself is pretty naff. Instead of relying on the skills accumulated throughout the series, these two superpowered assassins duke it out in a rudimentary fist fight.

No stealth. No gadgets. No clever mechanics. Instead, the game turns into a beat 'em up. Even though there are four phases throughout this brawl, there is no variety in attacks, combos, or grapples.

It's commendable how Hideo Kojima wanted MSG4 to culminate with a stripped-down physical battle to focus on the emotional rivalry between the two characters. Nevertheless, players expected this story arc would end with something better than two old guys punching each other for five minutes.
