10 Incredible Sounding Games We Never Got To Play

2. Jurassic Park: Survival

Jurassic Park seems like the kind of film that is begging to have video games made about it, and indeed, they€™ve done that, although one could argue that there€™s never really been a truly great Jurassic Park game. Planned originally to coincide with the release of Jurassic Park III on DVD, Survival is speculated to have been cancelled due to the film's lack of popularity, and very well could have been the first great Jurassic Park game. Survival appeared to be some sort of third person shooter adventure game with elements of puzzle solving and exploration. A rival corporation decides to take over Isla Sorna, where you, the player character would work as a security technician, fighting off not only dinosaurs but soldiers as well. There was going to be a heavy survival element to the game, meaning the player could approach situations from a variety of angles, be it combat or stealth, and the environment would play a big role in all of this. Supposedly, a hacking feature would have been included that would allow players to spot enemy locations, or tamper with the parks electronics and unleash dinosaurs upon your enemies. To top it all off, the game was also going to have vehicles at points, and a trailer shows off a few cinematic looking set pieces. The games proposed variety of features was definitely quite hefty. Survival is interesting because, like many of the games on this list, it appeared to be quite ambitious. It aimed to combine numerous genres and would offer a variety of gameplay elements, a lot of which seem surprisingly trendy now. Stealth/Action hybrids like Dishonored or Far Cry 3 are all the rage right now, and the ability to hack locations, discover your enemies and unleash dinosaurs on them reminds me somewhat of Far Cry 3€™s outposts and radio towers. This is all somewhat reminiscent of another Jurassic Park game, Trespasser, which received poor reviews, but was also ahead of its time due to its advanced physics and attempts at immersion. Perhaps Survival was also canned before it could suffer a similar fate?
