Viewtiful Joe is one of the many Capcom games that flew a little under the radar in the early-2000s, despite being an absolutely stellar title. Even when it was brought to the PS2 following mediocre sales on the Gamecube it still didn't manage to set the world on fire.

Still, those who played it almost universally adored it and many are still waiting for the announcement of a third title following the cliffhanger left by the second.

By contrast the Devil May Cry series has experienced considerably more success, with lead character Dante being extremely popular until a reboot split the fanbase in two.

With that in mind, Capcom thought that they could maybe use the demon slayer to drum up a little more interest in the game. The kicker was that you would only be able to find him if you bought the PS2 version of the game.

This wasn't a simple reskin either. Dante had his very own story and moveset that made him stand out from the rest of the Viewtiful Joe universe, making his one of the better and more complete cameos around.
