10 Incredible Video Game Intros (That Made You Stop Playing The Second Time Around)

7. Who Cares About Midnight Town - Kingdom Hearts 2

Kingdom Hearts 2, like its predecessor, starts with a peaceful intro that focuses more on the friendship dynamic of its characters rather than action and fighting the Heartless.

The atmosphere of its starting location of Midnight Town is perfectly tranquil and serene, matching the peaceful moments between Roxas and his friends. The entire intro is a slow but deeply immersive, dropping a ton of exposition on the player in the most amicable and un-intrusive way possible.

However, while the setting saves the player from exposition the first time around, on each repeated playthrough it becomes painfully obvious.

Midnight Town is filled with mandatory objectives and linear events that feature the characters talking and talking with no end in sight. The first time you play, the town’s atmosphere can momentarily distract you from it all, but after you’ve seen it once, there are only the repetitive exposition dumps left.

It doesn’t help that by the second playthrough you’ve already seen Kingdom Hearts 2’s actual gameplay, which is glaringly absent from Roxas’s unbearably long trip for sea-salt ice cream.
