A part of the respected Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise, Maximo vs. Army of Zin was released in 2003 on the Playstation 2.

A brilliant mixture of platforming and hack and slash combat, Maximo vs. Army of Zin is the sort of game that anyone can pick up and enjoy.

It doesn't take itself too seriously, either. When taking damage, Maximo visibly loses some of his armour, meaning that just before death the player is reduced to boxer shorts.

There's also the opportunity to transform into the Grim Reaper, which renders the player invulnerable as well as faster and more powerful. You also receive bonuses from villagers that you've saved while playing, which vary in nature but serve as a very sweet little mechanic to remind you of the good you're doing for the people of the cartoonish world in which Maximo exists.

Maximo vs. Army of Zin saw a re-release through PSN on the PS3 in 2012, giving a new generation of players access to this brilliant (and at times, ridiculous) title.
