10 INCREDIBLE Video Game Sequels Everyone Ignores

2. Gothic II

Piranha Bytes

The Gothic series is one that never quite seems to receive the acclaim that it deserves, although not without reason.

Created by German developer Piranha Bytes, the translation of the script and voice acting into English was a source of criticism, meaning that the game under-performed in English speaking countries. It was huge in Germany and a big hit with the German press, and was nominated for several RPG accolades (although it lost out on all of them to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic).

There was also a little matter of the US release of the game not being confirmed by publisher Atari, meaning that it received little in the way of promotion to the massive US audience.

Boasting an impressive game world and a story that any RPG fans will find themselves comfortably sinking into, Gothic II is well worth picking up for a trip down memory lane. Its graphics may not have aged well, but it still holds up as a great title that deserved so much better than it got.
