10 Incredible Video Games That Came From Terrible Movies

7. Friday The 13th: The Game

Yes, the Friday the 13th movies are Big Dumb Fun (albeit shlocky as hell, badly produced fun), but the latest instalment before this game? It was the godawful, pointless reboot from 2009, that literally no one cared about.

Cut to 2017 though, and one of the finest asymmetrical multiplayers of the generation was born. Coming from Illfonic, a developer who adored the Friday the 13th mythos and movies, they were already attempting to make Slasher Vol.1: Summer Camp, only for a meeting with original movie director Sean S. Cunningham to transform the whole thing into a licensed tie-in.

Admittedly it had a rocky start, suffering various bugs and frame rate issues - the devs even lost a licensing battle to do additional DLC - but like Jason himself, the game has thundered on.

Recently ported to Switch as Illfonic bowed out and Black Tower Studios stepped in, Friday the 13th is still one of the only examples of asynchronous multiplayer done right.
