10 Insane Alternate Video Game Sequels You Won't Believe Got Cancelled
10. Uncharted 4 - Sam Vs Nate
One of the most high-profile titles on this list, the turmoil surrounding Uncharted 4 is well documented at this point. Originally in development with longtime series director Amy Hennig at the helm, she left the studio shortly after the game was formally unveiled, with Last of Us co-directors Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley stepping in to oversee the project.
Hennig's version of the game mostly altered the relationship between Nathan Drake and long-lost brother, Sam. Here, Sam was going to occupy more of a villain role - at least initially - with Hennig describing him as "an antagonistic force in Drake's life that he had to reconcile." This is even present in the first trailer, with Sam's voiceover narration being quite sinister. Also, it wasn't even clear if this was going to be Drake's final journey at that point.
While a lot of work was kept when the new directors came in, the story was radically altered, with there being an element of distrust between Sam and Drake, but with their dynamic now being much softer. The pair also added the flashback sequences to explore the brothers' history as well, while keeping the general pirate plot the same.
A more definitive end to the Uncharted series is undeniably the best outcome of this switch, but it still would have been interesting to see Drake's brother act as the main villain.
