10 Insanely Awful Video Games In Famous Franchises
5. Pac-Man - Atari 2600
Throughout Pac-Man's entire life (and let's remember, he's older than all of us), he's best associated for doing one thing and one thing only - munching pills and fruit while evading ghosts. That's it. Most of the Pac-Man variants over the years that stuck to this formula did so successfully, culminating in the excellent Championship Mega-DX version (or whatever it's called) that came out in 2010. How then, did the Atari 2600 version manage to screw things up so badly? Clearly the console didn't have the firepower capable of handling Pac-Man's vibrant colours and that iconic intro jingle, so why even bother? They could surely have added more colours into the game too, rather than just brown murkiness on a blue-screen background?!? Despite the game's all-round flicker-filled awfulness, it went on to become the best-selling ever game for the Atari 2600, shifting 7 million units. However, karma had it that no one ever trusted Atari to deliver good games again, causing the console to tank soon after that, and the video game industry to enter a dark age until the Nintendo redeemed it in 1985.
