10 Inspirations Star Wars Rogue One Will Take From The Dark Forces Franchise

Within the Dark Forces video game, acquisition of the Death Star plans is the tip of the iceberg in terms of story; the theft of the plans are used as an introductory tool for Kyle Katarn as a main character. The first mission takes place on the planet Danuta, where Katarn locates and beams the plans to a waiting Princess Leia just moments before the start of A New Hope.

While Rogue One focuses on the Death Star and the secret plans, fans would be foolish to think there isn't a strong subplot at work. Though this film will stay away from the Skywalker lineage as a whole, less the cameo appearance of Darth Vader, a critical subplot surrounding the main character is a guarantee. While Jyn is front and centre in this film, her personal motives for going along with the Rebel cause will have to be explored.

Both titles have an overall impact on the events surrounding A New Hope. Dark Forces briefly explores the Death Star plans while establishing a separate objective to the story. Rogue One will be about establishing the Rebellion prior to the events of the original film. In its simplest form, Rogue One is a prologue to the events of A New Hope, summarized within the first five minutes of the original.
