10 Inspirations Star Wars Rogue One Will Take From The Dark Forces Franchise
6. Death Troopers / Dark Troopers Connection
While the mission to steal the Death Star plans was a prologue in Dark Forces, the real mission was gathering intelligence for a new Imperial weapon. That weapon would be the Dark Trooper Project: advanced battle droids with heavy plated exoskeletons. Don't compare these battle droids to the ones from the prequel films though; these guys were the real deal, coming in three altered phases, each meaner and harder as the game progresses.
The newly introduced Death Trooper represents something entirely different to the Star Wars galaxy. Compared to the classic white Stormtrooper, the Death Trooper is being sold as an elite variant of the Galactic Empire. Hopefully these guys have better training when it comes to blasters. Little is known of this new class of Stormtrooper other than their black armored appearance and service to the film's antagonist Director Orson Krennic.
Unlike the Death Trooper, the Dark Trooper of the Dark Forces franchise were mechanical - their similarities apparently stopping with their black design. The Dark Trooper was known for its potential to deal deadly destruction on a mass scale, whereas the Death Trooper comes across as more of a tactical unit for special missions. In the end, both will prove to be worthy adversaries for the main cast of characters.
