10 iPad Games That Are As Good As Anything On Consoles Right Now

2. Hook

Offering no real USP beyond simply having the most enjoyable and satisfying learning curve of any game on any console, Hook is a simple puzzle game will take up no more than a few afternoons of your life. The game's interface couldn't possibly look simpler, consisting of little more than a series of thin lines. Your job is simple, all of these lines need to be retracted back to their source, but as you progress through the game's 50 levels, they'll be overlaid and set out in increasingly complex patterns. There's a precise order to the solution, and it's up to you to figure it out with only a scant number of mistakes allowed. Some lines conflict with others, some require you to connect a circuit, and some require you to leap a signal over a gap. It's like a digital cross between electrically wiring a circuit board and a top-down horizontal game of Jenga. It doesn't sound like much, but it's almost as engrossing as it's possible for a game to be. The minimalist design of the interface is matched only by the incredibly soothing soundtrack that accompanies it, and in terms of a sheer gaming experience it's so much more than the sum of it's parts. There are no instructions whatsoever, you simply learn as you go, and every level will feel like an increased challenge without ever overwhelming you with complexity.
