10 Legend Of Zelda Secrets You Still Haven’t Discovered

8. The Chris Houlihan Room (A Link To The Past)

In the early '90s, shortly before Zelda: A Link to the Past was due to touch down on the SNES, a young man called Chris Houlihan won a competition in Nintendo Power and the prize was to have his name appear in the game.

Nintendo honoured the contest and dedicated an entire location to the lucky fan, so you might wonder why you've never discovered the Chris Houlihan Room before. The answer is simple: you have to break the game to find it.

The Big N used the Chris Houlihan Room as a crash prevention measure. On the rare instances when the game cannot determine Link's position on the screen, it dumps him in this top secret location.

One of the most well known methods for forcing your way into the room involves executing a series of dashes using the Pegasus Boots, starting from the Sanctuary all the way to the Sewer Passageway's entrance. If pulled off correctly, Link should fall through the floor and into this hidden space.

Inside the Chris Houlihan Room is a tonne of blue rupees and a Telepathy Tile name-dropping the competition winner.

Come to think of it, Houlihan was given a raw deal by Nintendo Power considering what he was promised, but he shouldn't feel as hard done by as the reader who won the chance to appear in The Mask 2, a film which was never made.
