10 Legendary Nintendo Characters We're All Sick To Death Of

3. Donkey Kong

In some ways, the Donkey Kong franchise has done almost everything right. Spin-offs, like the rhythm games, have been playful distractions that stay true to the tradition of the lovable gorilla and his jungle world. With the exception of the overall-boring racing series, the games have done well to branch off in fun avenues, while still providing us with core games from the Donkey Kong Country series. In fact, the upcoming Donkey Kong game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, shows off the latest attempt to spice up the franchise by changing the setting aesthetic and introducing viking-like characters as fitting antagonists. The problem is that the critical success of the last game Donkey Kong Country Returns, means that we're in store for many more sequels and spinoffs similar to Tropical Freeze. As much as I like DK, I can't say I feel the same way about his pals (except for Diddy, of course). This makes me tire of the silent hero for the same reason Kirby makes me roll my eyes whenever I see him. There's just no heart to his character, and I have no reason to care about DK or his gang of cool-looking-yet-shallow misfits.
