10 Lies That Stopped You Playing Awesome Video Games

5. No Man’s Sky Will Forever Be Unfinished And Overpromised

Mass Effect Andromeda Worst Game Ever
Hello Games

Wrong! No Man’s Sky is one of my favourite stories in video games, for this misconception alone. Sure, the concept itself could be argued to be quite bland, and like another very specific game coming up on our list, its gameplay is definitely not for everyone. However, the progress of No Man’s Sky and Sean Murray’s big mouth is a real comeback story that many developers of the industry can learn from.

On launch, No Man’s Sky was the hollow shell of what is available today. It was also nowhere near what was promised by Sean Murray throughout all those presentations. The amount of unimplemented features promised prior to launch wasn’t too dissimilar from BioShock Infinite or the original Fable’s pre-release hype. Potential multiplayer, a billion galaxies, all unique, infinite ways to play, a constant stream of new things to explore and discover. These were just a few of the lies fed to us by Murray.

Unfinished and overpromised was right. Past tense, of course. Now, No Man’s Sky has truly reached its potential, offering players everything promised, plus more content on top of that for good measure. Still, it’s up to those burned on release to decide whether Hello Games have redeemed themselves or if it's too little, too late.
