“But, Duke Nukem Forever came out in 2011”, said the guy we’re ignoring, because despite the fact he’s not wrong, we’re just pretending he’s wrong.

If you want to imagine that big Duke’s first proper game since 1996’s Duke Nukem 3D was a great one, you can just pick up a copy of BulletStorm: Full Clip Edition, which allowed you to play through the entire game as the flat-topped quipster as a preorder bonus.

Duke is functionally identical to the game’s usual hero, Interchangeable Bearded Man, but has all-new dialogue and animations. Add this to the sheer fun value of BulletStorm (which allows you to use a grapple beam to grab a lad, throw him into the air, shoot him in the gonads and then finally kick him into a cactus), you get a game that Duke really feels at home in.

Speaking of being a good fit - BulletStorm’s writing already felt Nukem-y, due to its ostentatious shoutiness and refusal to string together a sentence without at least three or four curse words included. It’s like a twelve-year-old’s imagined version of “badass hero” chat, which suits The King down to a T.
