10 Lost Video Game Characters You Didn't Realise Came Back

4. Sam Fisher In Ghost Recon Wildlands

From the sounds of “bwwwwweeeeee” of the night vision and the rough-as-burnt-toast voice of Michael Ironsides, to the unmistakeable triangular formation of the three green lights on Sam’s goggles, there are few games with a protagonist as instantly recognisable as Splinter Cell’s.

Yet, for some bizarre reason, Ubisoft have sat on this Tom Clancy classic franchise for nearly seven whole years (in Splinter Cell: Blacklist) without letting our favourite Stealthy Gramps out for another round of neck-snappin’.

You could argue that the revival of the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series was a good enough tradeoff, and though Ghost Recon Wildlands (and the later, far less nifty Breakpoint) was a tantalising little four-player open-world tactical shooter, some of us really just longed to do a suspended splits-jump in an alleyway again dressed all in black (admit it - you tried to do it in the hall and fell into the shoe rack).

Well, fret not - in a hidden mission in Wildlands, you can meet our favourite geriatric in matte PVC, and upon helping him out in a stealthy-enough manner, he’ll reward you with a pair of your very own “bweeeeeee” goggles.

Long time no see, Sa...

oh, he’s... he’s gone already.
