10 Loveable Video Games That HATE You

2. Battletoads

Two words - Turbo Tunnels.

It was all going so well with Battletoads until that infamous point. Here you have a really enjoyable side-scrolling beat-em-up on the NES with lots of fluidity, varied gameplay and a cast of likeable, lovable toads who just wanna battle.

Then along comes the dreaded tunnels. If you've ever played Battletoads, you'll know just how much the game really hates you when you get to this section. The Turbo Tunnels are known throughout gaming history as one of the craziest difficulty spikes a game has to throw at you and after all the enjoyment you've just had, this one really can leave a sour taste in the mouth afterwards.

It's such a shame, as if you take the Turbo Tunnels out, Battletoads could have been so much more. It could even have been a big franchise player in the gaming world (it's had several sequels over the years, but none have particularly set the world on fire).

The Battletoads are basically cartoon-ready loveable characters that just never got their break. Stupid pesky developers and their throwing in ridiculously difficult levels *shakes fist angrily*.
